Southport is a coastal town with panoramic views so wonderful that several movies have had scenes shot here, including Crimes of the Heart, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Weekend at Bernie’s, and Safe Haven. One interesting tidbit about Safe Haven relating to music is that the cast included Red West in his last acting role. Red, also who played Master Sergeant Andy Micklin in the TV series Baa Baa Black Sheep, is probably best known as a songwriter and a member of Elvis Presley’s infamous Memphis Mafia.
The sites of the Southport waterfront include the City Pier, beautiful sunsets, and lots of container ships on their way to and from the port of Wilmington. We also have our share of dangers, including the occasional ice storm, alligators, and hurricanes. The last photo shows the aftermath of Hurricane Isaias on our back deck. Mostly, Southport is paradise.
